Test bench for testing machinery for the removal of Class H particulate

Aims:

The emission of hazardous substances from dust removing machines was tested according to the European Standard EN 60335-2-69 Annex AA "Special requirements for vacuum cleaners, suction sweeping machines and dust extractors for dusts hazardous to health". This test standard provides, that the degree of permeability of high-grade class H dust removers is tested on a special test bench. A test bench was set up in order to provide the technical conditions for the assessment of dust removing machines.

Activities/Methods:

A specification containing a detailed profile of requirements was drawn up. The basic construction of the test bench is described in the European Standard EN 1093-6 "Safety of machinery - Evaluation of the emission of airborne hazardous substances from machines - Part 6: Separation efficiency by mass-inducted outlet". Following adaption of the design to the specified task, suppliers were selected and the order awarded. Following delivery and commissioning preliminary tests were performed. Comparative tests involving two other test institutes were planned for the validation of the measurement results.

Results:

Following testing the new test bench using specific machines, two typical class M and class H vacuum cleaners were selected and tested in turn by three German test institutes. The results were collected and evaluated by the test body responsible for wood dust extractors. The degrees of permeability of class M vacuum cleaners were substantially below the required values. In order to meet the requirements for the dust class H, however, at least three tests are required, in order for statistically validated values below 0.005% to be obtained.
