The aim of this study is a detailed and precise analysis of the epidemiology of post-traumatic lymphedema. In particular, risk groups should be identified in order to derive a direct consequence for the treatment of the affected patients. As a future perspective, this would further improve the treatment of these patients in specialized centers. This creates an additional incentive for the BG clinics to expand their surgical spectrum to include lymph surgery in order to make this new technique broadly available. Currently, this is limited to just a few centers in Germany.
During follow up patients with open or closed fractures of the upper or lower extremities with associated soft tissue damage will be included in the study. Patients will be examined 3 and 6 months after trauma via clinical examinations including a measurement of circumference and an Indocyanine green (ICG) lymphangiography.
