One of the subcommittee's areas of activity is assessment of the suitability of measures for protection against exposure to optical radiation.

IFA Project 4208 studied the extent to which vehicle windows are transmissible for UV radiation. The results of this study can be found on the information sheet entitled "Focus on IFA's work" No 0387 (PDF, 152 kB, non-accessible) .

The suitability of sunscreen for prevention of skin cancer (PDF, 176 kB, non-accessible) was examined in a literature survey. The Skin protection subcommittee of the PPE expert committee is also examining this issue.

Information on the application of measures for protection against solar radiation in accordance with the TOP principle (technical measures take priority over organizational measures, which in turn take priority over personal measures) is provided by the DGUV's web pages on prevention and the Protective clothing subcommittee of the PPE expert committee, and by the Non-ionizing radiation subcommittee of the ETEM expert committee.
